FC Groningen won 7-0 against Gieten on Saturday afternoon. The match against the Drentse amateurs was the last friendly match for the FC against a regional amateur club in preparation for the new season.

The match was played at sportpark De Goorns and attracted around 2,000 spectators. VV Gieten had a strong sporting year and just missed the championship in the third class last season.

How did the match go?

At FC Groningen, goalkeeper Lovro Stubljar was under the bar for the full nineteen minutes. Although the amateurs put up brave resistance in the initial phase, the pros were already leading 3-0 at half-time. David van der Werff broke the deadlock after a quarter of an hour, putting the FC in the lead, and Nils Eggens scored the 2-0 a few minutes later.

After the break, FC Groningen increased the score with four more hits. Tika de Jonge scored two goals, while Thom van Bergen and Levi Roeland completed the seven. FC Groningen will leave for a training camp next week, where they will face a serious test against Heracles Almelo on Wednesday. The team is currently in 9th place in the Eredivisie with 48 points from 34 games and a recent form of WWLLD, and has a goal difference of +4 with 49 goals scored and 45 conceded, 36 points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven.
