FC Groningen has started the new season under tropical conditions. The first training was brought forward by two hours due to the warm weather.

What happened?

The players and staff of FC Groningen had to adapt to the high temperatures. 'The first training is always a bit of a struggle', says coach Dick Lukkien.

New players

Goalkeeper Rijk Janse, who came from NEC, was the only real new player. Although Etienne Vaessen's contract was extended in the summer, Tygo Land will be loaned from PSV for another year and Travis Hernes has been permanently acquired from Newcastle United.

Future of Thom van Bergen

Thom van Bergen is in the interest of AZ and also wants to make the switch to Alkmaar, although the expectations of both clubs are currently still far apart. 'My expectation is that Thom will also play for FC Groningen next season', says director Frank van Mosselveld.

What's next?

Next Tuesday, FC Groningen will be in action for the first time. Then VV Peize is the opponent. FC Groningen wants to add at least one player to each line. Because after the departure of Hidde Jurjus, Marvin Peersman, Dies Janse, Mats Seuntjens and Rui Mendes, there is still a lot to be done.
