For years we dreamt of it, generations waited for the moment the Pride of the North could finally lift a tangible prize. FC Groningen, the club from the far North, had a rich history of loyal supporters and memorable moments in the Eredivisie, but that one true major trophy remained elusive. Until that magical May 3, 2015. It was the day Northern pragmatism gave way to pure, unadulterated ecstasy.

The road to De Kuip was not an easy one. The KNVB Cup campaign was fraught with challenges, but our Green-Whites showed resilience and determination. Match after match, we saw belief grow, both on the pitch and in the stands. The quarter-final against Vitesse, the hard-fought semi-final against Excelsior; every hurdle was cleared with an indomitable will to succeed. With an impressive display and a team that fought for every inch of grass, FC Groningen suddenly found themselves, against all odds, in the KNVB Cup final, against PEC Zwolle.

The day of the final was charged with tension. All of Groningen seemed to have descended upon Rotterdam; De Kuip turned green and white. Our legion of supporters had turned out in massive numbers, the hope in their hearts palpable, the banners brimming with passion. And then, in that iconic arena, it happened. Albert Rusnák, our Slovakian gem, unleashed his magic. His first goal, a moment of pure class, sent the stands into an explosion of noise. And not long after, his second, which already brought Euroborg and all of Groningen into ecstasy. The release after the final whistle was unprecedented. Michael de Leeuw lifted the silver pineapple, and the dream became reality. Tears of joy flowed freely.

Back in Groningen, the city exploded. The Grote Markt filled up, thousands of throats sang 'We are Groningen'. The team bus, a moving party, was welcomed as heroes, the buildings adorned with green-white flags. The Euroborg, normally the stage for our weekly battles, transformed into an arena of pure jubilation, a green-white wave of celebrating people. It was more than a victory; it was a confirmation of everything FC Groningen stands for: fighting spirit, unity, and the indomitable spirit of the North. A city united in unprecedented pride.

That cup, that one silver pineapple, doesn't just sit in the trophy cabinet as a gleaming object. It is tangible proof of our shared journey, an inspiration for every new generation of footballers who pull on the green-white shirt. It reminds us that with perseverance, passion, and the unconditional support of the fan legion, dreams can become reality. The Pride of the North finally had its crown, and the whole country knew it.
